So now that Penguin 2.0 has been released and the dust has settled, it is obvious that social media will begin playing a large role, along with local (local we will cover in a different post). The truth is, social media is here to stay and Google really has made it apparent by the heavy weight they gave it in the Penguin update algorithm.
So what does that mean for you? Well, first of all, you now have a bonafide reason to be on Facebook or Twitter. But what you do matters. Just like online SEO was a science, so is social media. You can’y just slap content on a platform and think your ranking will increase. The more important you are matters.
Huh? What does that mean? Well, think about it. If you consistently post content that everyone talks about and shares, Google then thinks YOU are important and in doing so, you have more Klout (yup, there’s a new app for that). So you want the most bang for your buck.
We have been doing some split testing and studying of content to see what has the best “viral” potential. In that, what we mean is, content that is more apt to be shared, retweeted, liked, etc. Google will love you and therefore, your content much more.
More to come on this but know this for now, be social. It will help your SEO efforts if done well.
